Private sector housing plan consultation
The Borough Council is committed to consulting with our residents on a variety of issues. This section provides information about the Council's Private Sector Housing Plan consultation 2004.
Consultation overview
Copies of the draft Private Sector Housing Action Plan were sent out to 18 different organisations and groups to seek comments on the proposed action and assistance to be taken in the private housing sector over the next 3 years.

Why did we consult?
The draft action plan uses the themes that are detailed in the Housing Strategy and links to the Community and Corporate Plans using the following principal areas where action will be concentrated:
- Advice and information
- Older people
- Improving housing condition
- Helping vulnerable people
The proposed action plan will bring clarity to what private sector housing issues are within the borough and what actions are available within the resources that are currently available.
The consultation with users of the service, partner organisations and other interested parties will ensure that any other issues that are raised can be considered before the final action plan is adopted.When did we consult?

What were the key findings?
Five written responses were received. Comments that were incorporated into the plan related to the following areas:
- That large-scale repairs budgets was shown as a contingency fund.
- Figures for staffing cost were more accurate in relation to work areas.
- Support for the expansion of the Anchor Staying Put Scheme
- Active promotion of the Heat Project to owner occupiers
- SMART targets be developed for the Heat Project
- Sponsorship to be sought for the use of renewable energy technology
- Review of the Council's involvement with Houseproud in 2005/06
- The number of enquiries for equity release from under 60 year olds be recorded
- Identification of special needs being identified by Age Concern visits mentioned
- Clarification of the definition of “disabled person”
