Air quality stage 4 review and assessment
The Borough Council is committed to consulting with our residents on a variety of issues. This section provides information about the Council's Air Quality Stage 4 Review and Assessment 2003.
Consultation overview
Letters were sent out to 36 residences within the air quality management areas which the Borough Council is scrutinising. The letters explained the findings of the assessment, and invited responses.
Who did the consulting?
Reigate and Banstead Borough Council.
Who did we consult?
The residents directly affected by the findings of the report, together with statutory consultees i.e. DEFRA, the Highways Agency, The Mayor of London, and surrounding local authorities.
Why did we consult?
A previous investigation into air quality had identified a number of areas in the Borough where air pollution was predicted to be over the UK objective (limit) values in 2005. This study confirmed some areas, but also found that other areas would meet the air quality standards, and so the purpose of the consultation was to keep residents informed.
When did we consult?
October - November 2003.
What were the key findings?
Though no written responses were received from residents in response to the findings of the consultation, we received two telephone calls asking for the work to be put in a wider context i.e. what were exposures like elsewhere in the Borough.
As a result of the report the Highways Agency will be examining flow breakdown (which leads to traffic jams) on the M25 especially around Junction 7.Further information
