This page contains information about objective 2 European funding in the South East.
GOSE provide the secretariat function for the Objective 2 funding in the South East. We are responsible for managing the application process including appraisal, monitoring projects and finances and providing secretariat support to the Programme Monitoring Committee.
Objective 2 is one of the three priority objectives of the European Structural Funds.
Over £26.6 million will have been brought to the South East from 2000 - 2006 from funding under the Objective 2 programme.
Objective 2 aims to revitalise those areas facing structural difficulties, whether industrial, rural or urban. Structural problems vary from region to region and cover a wide variety of different types of socio-economic difficulties and generally reflect a high level of unemployment.
These can include:
- a decline in the traditional manufacturing sectors
- a decline in the economy of coastal towns
- social exclusion due to a lack of investment in urban areas
- Poorly qualified labour market for current day needs
Funding is given based on four categories:
- business development and innovation
- spatial development
- heritage, culture and the environment
- community economic development
The Programme Monitoring Committee includes:
- Government Office for the South East
- South East England Development Agency
- local authorities
- community groups
- business, skills, education sectors
- environmental interests organisations
