- Don’t write indiscriminate ‘Dear Sir/ Madam’ circular letters to ANY companies
- Don’t use alisting guide that hasn’t been pre-checked as your mailing list
- Don’t write to a company that specifically says it does not support your kind of work
- Don’t write to a company unless at least one of the following applies:
- The company has a declared a specific interest in your groups area of work
- The company operates in the same locality as your group
- A clear product link exists between your needs and the potencial sponsors products/ supplies
- You have a strong personal link with a senior officer, or member of staff actively involved in your work
- There is good reason! The fact that the company makes a profit and your group needs money is not sufficient!
The Application Letter Checklist
- It is only one side of A4?
- Does it state what your link is with the company?
- Does it stress the benefits to the company?
- Is it clear why you need the money?
- Is it clear what you are asking for?
- It is addressed to the correct contact?
- Is it attractive to the company?
- Is it endorsed?
