What are your key selling points?
This page contains information to help fundraisers recognise their key selling points.
Most major funders receive thousands of applications each year, some as many as 30,000. So your application has to catch their attention as something worth supporting, so think carefully about how you are going to arouse interest and ‘sell’ your case; for example:
What is unique, special and different about the work you are doing?
Consider: The nature of the problem/the need you are tackling?
Why is it necessary and important?
Consider: Who will it affect? What will happen if nothing is done? What are the consequences?
Use: social trends to demonstrate growing problems
What will it achieve?
Consider: Who will benefit? Why are their needs particularly important?
Use: social trends to show how actions have helped to alleviate problems
What will grab the interest or excitement of a funder?
Consider: Why it is important to give support? How will their support help?
Why would they want to give you the money to do it?
Consider: common interests/connections; the benefits of involvement, i.e. PR/philanthropy etc.
Use: examples of PR, branding and events that are likely to result from the donation
You are likely to have limited space, so it is important to get these points across effectively.
