Fundraising information

Fundraising information

This section of the website provides a practical guide to fundraising.

Our aim is to ensure that you have access to information on the types of funding available, people that can offer advice and the know-how to make a convincing case for support.

This section has been developed on the basis that ‘communication’ is one of the most fundamental skills in fundraising. It therefore assists in the following ways:

Where to look for funding

This section introduces you to a variety of organisations that provide funding opportunities and/or funding advice. The aim to highlight funding streams whilst enabling you to open the communication channels with potential funders. Go to Where to look for funding

How to attract sponsorship

This section not only provides an overview of company giving (the who, what and why) but it gives fundamental advice on how to make your fundraising approach. We hope that the ‘constructing an appeal letter’, the ‘checklist’ and ‘Do’s and Don’ts’ information within this section will be particularly helpful. Go to How to attract sponsorship

Applying for Grants

Where possible individuals should engage with the potential funder, however, there are some funders who avoid discussions with applicants in advance. This section is designed to help you write a good application with or without the support of the funder. It identifies the key factors in writing a good application, including the importance of research, building credibility, developing grant winning ideas and managing the application process. Got to Applying for Grants

Templates and Toolkits

Writing applications is an art, not a science. What works well for one organisation may not work for another. The following section simply provides templates that have led to fundraising success and toolkits that have not only supported applications but also helped to cover every funding eventuality. Go to Templates and Toolkits

Remember: successful fundraising results from perseverance, so don’t give up. Just because you are turned down once does not automatically mean that your application was poor, or the project was unfundable. Learn any lessons you can, by continuing to keep those communication channels open and most importantly, keep at it.

Even the best Fundraiser doesn’t get money every time!
