Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership
This section explains the role of the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, which works to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour locally.
The Borough Council works with its partners to keep the area as one of the safest places to live in the country .
The Council and its partners have formed a powerful alliance known as the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership aimed at clamping down on crime and anti-social behaviour in the Borough.
Every three years the partnership produces a strategy document known as the Community Safety Strategy which sets out ways in which it plans to combat crime and disorder in the coming months and years.
The Partners
The leading partner organisations which make up the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership are
- Reigate and Banstead Borough Council
- Surrey County Council
- Surrey Police
- Raven Housing Trust
- Surrey Fire and Rescue Service
- East Elmbridge and Mid Surrey Primary Care Trust
- East Surrey Primary Care Trust
- Surrey Police Authority
Pledges
The Community Safety Strategy 2005-08 pledges that the partners will work to:
- prevent people becoming involved in crime and anti-social behaviour
- catch and convict offenders, especially those whose crimes have the highest impact on the community
- rehabilitate and resettle offenders and drug abusers to reduce possible re-offending
Achievements
The current strategy builds on the successes from the 2002-05 strategy. Annex B of the new strategy gives full details, which include:
- employing Borough Council and Raven Housing Trust wardens
- expanding the Borough CCTV network
- Issuing 8 anti-social behaviour orders (ASBOs) against individuals with unacceptable behaviour, and setting up a dispersal area in the north of the Borough to prevent intimidating groups of people gathering.
Tough Targets
The strategy sets tough targets to remove graffiti and abandoned vehicles, to reduce anti-social behaviour and to reduce total crime by 16% by 2008. The strategy was written following feedback from the public from a Fear of Crime Survey (Annex C of the strategy) and consultation from a Crime and Disorder Audit (Annex D of the strategy) and Drugs Audit (Annex E of the strategy).
