Merstham Regeneration SPD

This section is intended to help people looking for information about the Merstham Regeneration draft Supplementary Planning Document (SPD).

This draft SPD contains extra guidance to enable the regeneration of Merstham. It builds on recent research into regeneration options and consultation with local community groups.

It focuses on five main issues that have emerged from the research and consultation undertaken:

• Merstham has one of the highest levels of deprivation in Surrey;
• The existing leisure and community centres and the Merstham recreation ground are in need of improvement;
• The area around Portland Drive, Purbeck Close and Nailsworth Crescent is in need of regeneration and improvement;
• Housing tenure in the centre of the estate is unbalanced; and
• There are opportunities for general environmental improvements in Merstham.        

It also contains proposals for specific sites and areas and for the main project opportunities. It also has information on the implementation and funding of some of the proposals.

The consultation period for this draft SPD closed on 11 August 2006. The consultation responses received will be considered and, following further revision, the final SPD will be adopted. The timetable to it's adoption is set out in the current Local Development Scheme.
