Householder Extensions and Alterations SPG
This section provides information about the Council's Householder Extensions and Alterations supplementary planning guidance.
Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) is produced by the Borough Council to provide extra guidance on and the interpretation of Local Plan policies.
The Householder Extensions and Alterations SPG was adopted on 11th March 2004.
Its purpose
- To provide advice to householders extending or altering a property, addressing common questions and types of extensions;
- To explain the factors that the Council will take into consideration when determining a householder planning application;
- To help achieve the highest design standards, even when planning permission is not required; and
- To assist neighbours to understand the potential impacts of proposals.
Key messages
- The Council will, and you should, consider the effect of your proposal on your neighbours and the local environment.
- A well-designed extension can improve the desirability of your property, reduce the impact on your neighbours and improve the quality of the environment.
