Demolitions

Information about demolishing buildings.

When intending to demolish a building, notice must be be given to the Local Authority which is usually a minimum of six weeks prior to work commencing.

Details should be submitted in writing to both the Planning Department, which will assess whether any prior approval is required, and the Building Control Department.

A location plan of the building and adjoining streets must be provided together with a method statement for the demolition of larger buildings.

Statutory undertakers, such as water, gas and electircity boards, should also be notified in order that they may arrange for their services to be properly sealed.

For details of what constitutes a building for the purporses of demolition, please contact the Building Control Department.  

For demolition of walls, fences, gates or other means of enclosure please contact the Planning and Building Control Departments to check whether prior notice or consent would be required.
