Planning permission for building works

This section provides information on the different type of planning permission for building works, to help you decide which permission you need.

The application forms you need depend on the type of development you intend to do.

If you want to carry out works on your own home, or within the grounds of your property but less than the erection of a separate dwelling, you need to fill in the Householder application form.

If you are in a Conservation area or the application relates to a listed building you may also need to apply for Conservation area consent or listed building consent.

For any other type of development, or a change of use, you need to fill in a Part I form.

If your application relates to a commercial premises, you have to fill in a Part II form in addition to Part I.
