Householder planning permission - guidance
This section provides basic guidance on planning permission for people who are considering extending or altering their homes.
The Council has Householder application forms which are for householders to apply for planning permission for new building works.
The form may be used only for works to or within the grounds of residential properties.
You may use this form to apply for permission to carry out the following:
- An extension
- A dormer window
- High garden walls or fences
- A new or altered access onto a main road
- Removal of a condition on an existing planning permission
- A garage
- An outbuilding
- Other minor works
Additional forms
There are several circumstances in which you may need to fill in additional forms or different forms, such as if you live in a conservation area, the application relates to a listed building or you want to build a separate dwelling in your back garden.
For more see our section Which form do I need?
Further advice
An advice leaflet and supplementary guidance for people making householder applications is available to download with the application form itself, on our application forms page.
