Indices of Deprivation Overview

Although Reigate and Banstead is a comparatively affluent area compared to the UK, there are pockets of deprivation.

These areas are being addressed in the regeneration projects, and overall the Borough is the second most deprived in Surrey after Spelthorne.

Four of the Borough’s wards are in the most deprived 10% in Surrey, none are in the top 10% least deprived and only two in the top 25%.

The Borough also contains the most deprived Super Output Area in Surrey and a further thirteen are in the most deprived 10%. Only four of the Borough’s eighty-six SOA’s are in the top 10% in Surrey.

The Borough has more SOA’s in the bottom 25% in Surrey than in the top 25% for every indice apart from the Environment, faring particularly badly in Health Deprivation and Disability, where no SOA is in the top 10%, and 32 out of 86 areas are in the bottom 10 or 25% of deprivation.

At least one SOA falls in the bottom 25% for the UK for each indice and nine SOA’s are in the bottom 10% for the country for the Barriers to Service, which ironically is the only indice in which a SOA is in the top 10% for the country.
