We have launched our Five Year Plan 2015-2020, outlining the work we will be doing in the next few years to deliver services and how we will prioritise resources.

Created after extensive consultation with residents, businesses, partner and voluntary organisations, the Plan concentrates on three key areas:

  • People – how the council will support its residents so they can enjoy happy and healthy lifestyles

  • Place – how the council will help to make the area a great place to live and work

  • Organisation – how the council plans to be a great council.

Making the borough a great place to live and work

Launching the Plan, Council Leader Councillor Victor Broad said: "Our vision is to be a leading council - one that makes the borough a great place to live and work and one delivering quality services and support. We will work hard to provide value for money and to become an increasingly commercial organisation, knowing that our government grant is likely to end by 2020. In all of our work we will be flexible and sustainable, responding to the needs and demands of our borough, residents and businesses."

Becoming an ever more efficient and commercial council

The Plan emphasises the need for communities, partners and residents to also play roles in the future. This will include using online tools and self-serving via the council’s website where possible, and using community action and self-responsibility to solve local challenges.

The next five years will see the council become more commercial and efficient and increasingly use technology to save money. The Plan is centred around 13 priorities, identified following consultation, which supports the three Plan themes of People, Place and Organisation.
