Redhill Market moves to new location for National Markets Day
From Saturday 23 June 2012, Redhill Market will move back to its former location along Station Road and the southern part of the High Street.
The move coincides with the first National Markets Day and the start of Love Your Local Market fortnight, which runs from 23 June to 8 July 2012.
Redhill Market is home to over 20 stalls from a traditional greengrocers, butchers, bakers and florist, to crafts, clothing, luggage, general hardware and even Thai food. On Saturday, there will also be street entertainers in the town centre and traders will be decorating their stalls.
Vibrant town centre
Cllr Mrs Natalie Bramhall, Executive Member for Property and Regeneration, said: “Redhill Market plays an important role in our local economy and in creating a vibrant town centre.
“The market is always popular with shoppers when it runs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
“We hope the new, more prominent location and Love Your Local Market fortnight will boost the number of visitors to the market and improve its vitality, as well as attracting more shoppers to the town.”
National Markets Day is a recommendation that came out of the Mary Portas Review of the High Street and is aimed at celebrating and highlighting the part that markets play in bringing life to town centres. The 'Love Your Local Market' campaign, has been organised by the Market Alliance in support and to encourage people to support their local market.
Redhill Market runs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8am to 4pm. The street market in its current form has been running in the town for over 20 years.
During Love Your Local Market fortnight Reigate Farmers Market will also be running on Friday 29 June, with stalls in Church Street and Tunnel Road from 8am to 2pm.
