Reigate and Banstead appoints new Chief Executive
Reigate & Banstead Borough Council has appointed John Jory as its new Chief Executive. The appointment was confirmed at a special Council meeting on Thursday 27 May 2010.
Mr Jory is an experienced Chief Executive who has been with Mid Sussex District Council since April 2004. Further
details of exactly when he will take up his new post will be announced in due course.
John, (50), is married to Jennie and has 3 children. He was previously Director of Development Services at Ashford Borough Council, Kent.
He has previously held posts at the London Borough of Bexley, the London Borough of Richmond, St Albans City and District Council, Reading Borough Council, Surrey County Council and Rhymney Valley District Council in Mid Glamorgan.
From good to excellent
He said: "I am delighted to accept this appointment. I have known my predecessor, Nigel Clifford, for some time and admired his leadership and the impressive achievements of Reigate & Banstead Borough Council. I look forward to building on that excellent work, taking the Council and its services forward into the next decade whilst continuing to improve its performance and give the taxpayer real value for money."
Council Leader, Cllr Joan Spiers, said: "We eagerly anticipate John joining us and helping to develop a new style council for the future, and helping us to take this council from good to excellent.”
Nigel Clifford retirement
Mr Jory's appointment follows the retirement of Chief Executive Nigel Clifford earlier this month after 35 years with the organisation, eight of them as Chief Executive.
Graham Cook, the Council’s Director of Services to the Community, is Acting Chief Executive until Mr Jory takes up post.
