Join in with borough's Big Spring Clean (17 Mar 2010)
Show you love where you live by getting involved in Reigate and Banstead’s 'Big Spring Clean' for 2010.
Residents, community groups, schools and businesses across the borough are being encouraged to show they love where they live by getting involved in Reigate & Banstead’s 'Big Spring Clean' which kicks off this month (March 2010).
The Big Spring Clean, which is part of Reigate & Banstead Borough Council’s ‘Love Where You Live’ campaign, aims to demonstrate what can be achieved when local communities and the Council come together with the joint aim of making the borough a cleaner place for everyone.
A number of groups have already signed up to organise their own spring clean, with help from the Council, to tidy their street, village, local park or school, and the Council is urging others to join in.
Love where you live
Cllr Julian Ellacott, Executive Member for Environment, said: “The Council works very hard to keep the Borough clean and tidy by targeting littering, fly posting and graffiti, and making improvements to the our borough's villages and towns, but we can only do so much.
“The main aim of the Big Spring Clean is to show that we can all play our part in keeping our environment cleaner and tidier by involving those who live and work in the borough.
"We know that residents are really passionate about maintaining the beauty of the borough, and we want to involve them in keeping it that way. We can all take a bit more ownership of our local environment, from not to dropping litter and clearing up after your dog, through to reporting full litter bins and organising a community litter pick - there are lots of ways to get involved.
“It is fantastic that so many people are already taking such pride in their area by organising their own local litter-picks and clean-up events, and we look forward to helping with lots of similar activities across the borough. I hope all our residents will join in and put some love into where they live!"

The Council has written to over 200 community groups and schools inviting them to have their own spring clean.
The first of this year’s Big Spring Cleans is taking place in Chipstead Village on Saturday 20 March, organised by Chipstead Residents Association.
Big Spring Clean events have also been organised by residents in Burgh Heath, Tattenhams, Woodmansterne, Kingswood and by Chipstead Cubs and Beavers. In Langshott, Horley, a small group of residents regularly litter pick their local area.
The Council supplies the litter picks, bags and protective gloves and clears all the collected rubbish on the following day.
