Weekly update - 5 July 2010
Welcome to the first weekly update from Reigate and Banstead Borough Council. In this update we introduce our new Chief Executive John Jory.
New Chief Executive
Our new Chief Executive is now in post John Jory has joined us from Mid Sussex District Council, where he was Chief Executive for 6 years.
As Chief Executive, John turned Mid Sussex from one of the worst 40 district councils in the country to an efficient organisation with a reputation for providing good services at a modest cost.
Council Leader, Cllr Joan Spiers, said: "John has almost 30 years experience in local government and I am pleased that he has now joined us. I look forward to working with him to develop an organisation that is fit for the future. Together we will take this council from good to
excellent.”
Future focus
John said: "I am delighted to be here and intend to build on the achievements and excellent work of my predecessor, Nigel Clifford to move the council forward into the next decade.
"Given the state of our national economy and finances, my immediate priority is to work with the Leader and Executive to develop a sound business plan for the next five years.
"The council’s priorities should remain the same. We will protect our environment and keep it clean, green and safe. Some new buildings are, though, necessary to provide homes for those who need them and to provide space for business to start and grow. We need to promote economic prosperity through regeneration of our town centres.
"However, we must do all of this while maintaining services and providing value for money to those living and working in the borough. We must use the resources available to us wisely to make the council a more agile and efficient organisation. We must continue to improve our organisation.
"Over the summer, the Leader and I will raise these and other issues with our local residents, businesses and partners to find out where you think the Council’s resources should be focussed.”
