Find out about becoming a councillor
Becoming a councillor is a great way to take a more active role in your local community.
Reigate & Banstead Borough Council are holding an open evening for anyone interested in becoming an elected borough councillor on Tuesday 1 February 2011, from 6pm to 8.30pm.
You will have the opportunity to ask questions and find out about:
- What councillors do
- The skills and experience needed
- What is expected of you
- How much time being a councillor involves
- The facilities provided to support councillors in their role
- What you get back in return
- How to be a candidate at the May 2011 local elections
John Jory, Chief Executive, said: "Becoming a councillor is one of the ways you can help to make a difference to your local area.
"Councillors come from all walks of life and the ones currently serving at the council are from a range of diverse backgrounds. They bring a variety of experience and skills to the role.
"All residents are invited to attend this informal open evening to ask questions about the role of a councillor and the steps you can take to become one."
