Weekly update - 14 February 2011
This week's update focuses on the Council’s new corporate plan and our priorities for 2011-2015.
On 10 February the Council approved its Corporate Plan for 2011-2015. The plan outlines our future direction and priorities for the next five years. It focuses on maintaining services despite the challenging financial climate and enhancing the prosperity of the borough to make it an even better place to live and work.
Maintaining services
Chief Executive, John Jory, said: “Over the last six months since I joined the Council, I have been delighted with how officers and councillors have worked together to shape the future direction of the organisation. I am pleased that we have produced a Corporate Plan that feedback shows is strongly supported by the community.
“Our overarching priority is to maintain our existing services, something that residents told us is important, and to undertake an ambitious programme of works to improve the life of everyone in the borough by making it a more prosperous place.”
Prosperous communities
The ongoing regeneration of Redhill and Horley town centres is set to continue and a range of improvements to community facilities in Preston and Merstham are also planned to strengthen the local economy, manage sustainable housing growth and improve residents’ well-being.
We remain committed to protecting all that is good about our borough to ensure it remains an attractive, clean, green and safe.
We will be working more closely with residents, businesses and the voluntary sector to encourage initiatives that enable people to take more responsibility in making the borough an even better place. We will also be doing more for younger and older people.
We will be making improvements to our recycling and waste collection service so we can meet residents desire to recycle more and help keep landfill costs down.
Better for less
Cllr Mrs Joan Spiers, Council Leader, said: “We have delivered a good corporate plan and a budget to support it. Our prudent financial management means that for the second year running we will not be increasing our share of your council tax for 2011/12. We have worked hard to make our services more efficient and effective and will continue to do our best to deliver better, for less through working more closely with other public and voluntary sector partners, and with our communities.”
