Priory Park retains Green Flag award

Priory Park in Reigate has scooped the coveted Green Flag Award for a second year running.

The Green Flag means that the park has been recognised as one of the best parks in the country.

It is a sign to visitors that the park has met strict criteria, which among other things require it to be a clean, safe and welcoming place to spend time.

Priory Park stood out, after impressing the judges with its well managed green space, excellent facilities and signage and high standard of safety and security.

National recognition

Cllr Ellacott and parks staff celebrate Priory Park's Green Flag award

Cllr Julian Ellacott, Executive Member for Environment, said: “I am delighted that Priory Park has been awarded Green Flag status again.

"The achievement is testament to the hard work of parks team that manage the site and our grounds maintenance staff who work so hard all year round to look after the park and I would like to thank all of them for making this award possible.”

Cllr Adam De Save, Executive Member for Leisure and Wellbeing, said: “Locally we are aware that Priory Park is a wonderful asset to the community with great facilities, especially since its restoration and it is great that it has been recognised nationally.

“As the recession bites and people look closer to home to enjoy the outdoors, the provision of high quality, free open spaces like Priory Park is particularly important.”

Members of the public can also vote for their favourite Green Flag park on the Green Flag awards website.
