An action packed day for all the family is being promised in Priory Park, Reigate, on Sunday 2 May 2010, when the annual Reigate & Banstead Festival of Sport joins forces with the YMCA’s Fun Run.
Demonstrations
The Festival, organised by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and Reigate and Banstead District Sports Council will feature demonstrations by a host of sports clubs including archery, athletics, basketball, cycling, bowls, croquet, football, rugby, golf, gymnastics, martial arts, tennis and even Nordic walking.
They will also be offering information and advice to people of all ages and abilities on how to get involved and giving visitors the chance to try the sports out for themselves.
There will be plenty of other attractions too, including a wind surfing simulator, a Spider Web climbing tower, with instructors on hand if you want to have a go, and Ride the Hill will be giving a mountain board demonstration.
Try something new
Sue Sergeant, the Borough Council’s Leisure Development Officer, said: “The Festival of Sport gives people the chance to come along to the park, meet local sports clubs and have a go at a variety of sports from archery to Tai kwon do.
“If you fancy trying a new sport, want to know about what activities and clubs are available in your local area or you would just like a fun day out with the family, come along and see what’s on offer. The event is free and everyone is welcome.”
The fun starts at 11.00am and will run until 4.00pm and entry to the Festival is free.
YMCA Fun Run
The Festival of Sport has again teamed up with the YMCA Fun Run which will see thousands of competitors flock to the Priory Park to help raise money for projects in the community.
The race starts and finishes in Priory Park and takes a picturesque five-mile route around Reigate. For five to 15 year olds there is a one-mile run around the park. All fun run finishers will get a well-deserved medal and a free T-shirt.
