Maintaining parks and countryside
This section provides information about maintaining parks and countryside.
The Parks and Countryside section is responsible for the day-to-day management and maintenance of all
council owned parks, open spaces and countryside areas across the borough.
The section also maintains highway verges, shrubs and bedding displays on the highway, in town centres, the cemeteries and closed churchyards across the borough.
See our roadside verges page for more information on our grass cutting programme.
Since January 2005, all of these works have been carried out by a team of directly employed staff. The Parks and Countryside section is part of the Neighbourhood Services Department based at the Earlswood Depot.
The staff carrying out the maintenance works are based at a number of smaller depots around the borough.
Countryside Rangers
We have two full time Countryside Rangers who help with the day to day maintenance of the countryside areas and work with local volunteer groups at local sites. Their work has ranged from clearing footpaths, fixing fences, benches and bridges to organising bat and wildlife walks around the borough. please email us for the latest guided walks programme or visit our walks pages.
Improved the quality of service
The aim of having all the works carried out by directly employed staff is to improve the quality and give a service that is under the direct control of the Managers.
By being part of Neighbourhood Services all of the ‘Clean and Green’ services provided by the us are all in one Department.
The aim is for all of the Clean and Green services to work closely together to ensure the entire public environment is maintained to similar high standards.
Report it online
If you notice a problem in a park you can report it online using the cleaning form.
