May 2017

Works get underway to extend Fastway 20 service

Works to extend the Fastway 20 bus service through the Acres are due to start on 30 May and will be completed by September. For more information please see Surrey County Council's website.

Residents move into Westvale Park

The first new residents have recently moved into Westvale Park, the new neighbourhood of over 1,500 being built in north west, Horley.

Local shop coming to the Acres soon!

Building work is now underway to provide a Nisa Local store in the Acres. The store, which is located in the neighbourhood centre, will provide everyday items for residents who live in the Acres and nearby.

Two form entry primary plans for Westvale Park

Surrey County Council has launched a competition to find a suitable organisation who will run a new two form entry primary school in the North West Sector (Westvale Park) which is planned to open in September 2020. 

November 2016

First showroom opens in Westvale Park

Crest Nicholson, one of the four developers of Westvale Park, the new neighbourhood being built in Horley, has now opened their show home. The other three developers will be opening their show homes over the next couple of months.

Council take over play areas in the Acres

The Council has taken over the ownership and maintenance of five play areas in the Acres, Horley. They include the multi-use games area and play area off Brookfield Drive, and three play areas at Field Bank, Peppiatt Close and Flint Close.

Improved passenger facilities at Horley station

The station's forecourt now provides better facilities for people who use the bus, including step free access and a bus shelter. New parking arrangements have also been put in place. Improvements have also been made to the ticket hall, which has been repainted and opened up. This now includes a coffee kiosk and seating area.

The works are being undertaken by Southern Rail and have been part-funded by monies secured through the Horley Master Plan.

September 2016

Better pedestrian and cycle facilities

Good progress is being made to improve local pedestrian and cycle facilities between Reigate/Redhill and Horley, as part of the Greater Redhill Sustainable Transport Project.

Large sections of the National Cycle Route 21 (NC21) have been resurfaced and widened, and a wider shared cycle and pedestrian footway along Woodhatch Road will be completed by mid-October.

Extension of the Fastway bus service into the Acres

Surrey County Council will be extending the Fastway 20 bus into the Acres to provide an improved service for residents next year.

Local Plan: Have your say

The Council is developing the next part of its Local Plan, the Development Management Plan, which will set out where development will go between now and 2027 and guide what it will look like.

We would like to hear your views on possible sites and other planning topics that the plan should include.

The consultation period runs from 1 August until 10 Ocotober 2016.

West Vale Park, Horley

New library for Horley

Surrey County Council has given the go ahead to provide an exciting and modern new library in Horley. The new library which will be conveniently located in Russell Square in the town centre, will provide a comprehensive range of services for local people. It is intended that there will be a range of spaces for children, leisure study and business wi-fi, guidance and information, IT access and for creative/cultural activities.

The new facility will be funded by the redevelopment of the old library site and developer contributions that have been secured as part of the Horley Master Plan. 

A217 link road substantially complete

Construction of the A217 link road and roundabout, which will provide one of two new access routes to the North West new neighbourhood, is now substantially complete.

The other new link road, from the A23, will be completed prior to the occupation of the 600th home.

Planning permission granted for first 600 homes in the North West Sector

Reserved matters have recently been approved for the first 600 homes in the North West Sector, together with associated infrastructure. 

The reserved matters consent relates to the layout, scale, appearance and landscaping of the first phase of homes, together with details of infrastructure such as drainage and highways.

In total 1,510 homes will be built in the North West Sector, together with a primary school, associated community facilities and open space provision.

New convenience store to open in the Acres

Barratts Wates (Horley) Ltd have completed the sale of three shop units in the Acres neighbourhood centre. The new owner intends to open a NISA convenience store later this year.

Strawson Hall to be rebuilt

Strawson Hall, which was unfortunately recently destroyed in a fire, is set to be rebuilt following the Council’s granting of planning permission for a new building on its Albert Road site. 

Making the Acres safer

A 20mph speed limit is likely to soon be introduced in the Acres and on Langshott following a decision by Reigate and Banstead Local Committee (Surrey County Council website).
