3. Eschweiler
Eschweiler is a town of about 75,000 people situated close to the historic town of Aachen. It is also not far from the Rhine and towns like Cologne, Bonn and Dusseldorf.
Eschweiler itself is situated north of the Eifel Mountains, which are the continuation of the Ardennes. It is close to the borders with Belgium and the Netherlands and is one of the nearest towns in Germany to reach by car via Calais - between three and four hours away.
The borough's twinning connection goes back to 1985 and there are numerous well developed links between common interest groups and families. It hosts the third largest carnival in Germany and a group from Reigate participate every year.
