Council officers

The council has some 460 full-time equivalent employees who give advice, implement decisions and manage the day to day delivery of its services.

The most senior officers form the Management Team, led by the Chief Executive.

Council officers write the reports which inform the decisions made by Councillors in Committee or at Executive meetings.

Some officers have a specific duty to ensure that the Council acts within the law and uses its resources wisely.

Codes of conduct govern the conduct of Officers and the relationship between Officers and Councillors.

Sometimes the Council hires contractors to carry out its duties, such as the running of the leisure centres in the borough.
