Community involvement in planning

Your views are important in shaping the future development of the borough.

We regularly consult with local residents, businesses and landowners - both formally and informally - during the process of developing new planning policies. If you would like to be kept informed about new consultations as they occur, you can ask to be added to our consultation database by emailing or calling us on 01737 276178.

We also produce a Local Plan newsletter from time to time which provides an update on progress in bringing forward the new Local Plan. For more information, please visit the About Planning Policy page.

Statement of Community Involvement

As part of the New Local Plan, the Council has to produce a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI).

The SCI sets out when and how we will engage with and involve the community in planning matters, such as the consideration of planning applications and the preparation of planning policy documents. The SCI was reviewed in 2013 because of changes in legislation and the latest version was adopted on 17 October 2013.

Neighbourhood Planning

The Localism Act 2012 sets out a range of mechanisms to hand greater power to local councils and enable local communities to be more actively involved in how development happens in their local area.
