6. Worker scheme

Our Worker Scheme provides local unemployed people with skills and experience to help them gain future employment. Those on the scheme are guaranteed at least 25 hours' work for 26 weeks, are paid the Real Living Wage and are expected to do real work providing services for residents of Reigate and Banstead.

To be eligible you must;

  • live in the borough
  • be unemployed

Workers on the scheme are provided with a range of support, advice, learning & development, and job search skills depending upon their individual needs. Taking part offers valuable experience in the workplace, increased confidence and can lead to longer term work.

Since 2011 over 230 people have joined the scheme. Many have successfully gained employment with us or gone on to work in a variety of different organisations, including other local authorities, universities, the NHS and the private sector.

Interested in the worker scheme?

Any current worker scheme opportunities will be advertised along with our other vacancies on Surrey Jobs.

Opportunities for businesses

We are encouraging other local employers to start up their own worker schemes.

The East Surrey Pathway to Employment is a great example of a local partnership led by Raven Housing Trust which provides a programme of support to remove the barriers to employability for people facing housing insecurity.

There are real benefits to local employers in setting up such a scheme, and it is also relatively low in cost.
