Housing condition and safety
This section is intended to help tenants who wish to complain about disrepair and dampness in their private rented home.
The Council deals with complaints from tenants living in the rented homes.
We are also able to give advice to owners whose home may have risks to their health and safety and on how such hazards may be removed or reduced.
Standards in homes to minimise hazards can be dealt with by appropriate enforcement action.
Notify your landlord
Before getting involved in such issues however we ask that tenants meet their contractual obligations by notifying the landlord in writing where they are able, about any disrepair they feel ought to be remedied, which may pose a risk to their health and safety.
If an unsatisfactory response is received or if no action is taken then officers in this section may be able to serve enforcement notices if they feel that conditions are such to warrant such action.
The Council's Housing Enforcement Policy will be available here shortly.
