Key workers
This section provides information to help key workers who are in housing need.
The Council recognises the need to help key workers who provide vital services to the community, to find accommodation locally. Assistance is available for both rented housing and buying a home of your own.
Who are key workers?
Most people who work in the public sector in the Borough would fall within the Council's definition of key workers; also people who work for some charities and certain utility companies.
For full details of the current key worker definition visit the Key worker eligibility page
Housing for rent
Key workers may be eligible to join the Council's Housing Register for permanent rented housing; but key workers also have the option of joining the Register for specific short-term accommodation which is available from some housing associations.
To find out more visit the Housing Register page.
Housing to buy
Key workers may be eligible for one of the assisted home ownership schemes that are currently available.
To find out more visit the Assisted Home Ownership and HomeBuy page.
Major public sector employers
Some of the major employers in the Borough, and throughout Surrey, sometimes run their own initiatives to assist their own key workers.
