Severe weather
This page is about the impact of severe weather.
Severe weather can have a massive impact upon the day-to-day operations of both the council and the public.
Whilst in most cases, snow and ice are the most likely to cause significant impact, it is worth considering a range of severe weather scenarios, defined by the Civil Contingencies Act (2004) (Cabinet Office website) as:
- frost
- fog
- heat
- ice
- rain
- snow
- wind
- any combination of the above.
In all cases, where severe weather is likely to impact upon the services provided by the council or has wider implications for the public, we will endeavour to provide regular updates on the our homepage.
We are proud to say that during the worst 16 day period of snow earlier this year the council website was updated 56 times to ensure residents had the most up-to-date information that we could provide.
You should also check local radio and TV for the latest updates and advice about whether to travel.
