Our approach to recycling and refuse
This section provides an introduction to the Council's approach to recycling and refuse.
Do you care about the future of the local environment?
We do and we are involved in a wide range of initiatives to minimise waste, increase recycling and provide a sustainable future for us all.
We provide a house to house collection service for paper, card, cans, glass, plastics, aerosols, foil, tetra paks, carrier bags and food waste, which is currently used by 77% of householders.
Corporate Plan
Recycling centres
We also have over 40 recycling centres located across the borough. We are constantly reviewing our existing sites to refurbish and extend the materials collected and to identify areas for new recycling centres. We want to ensure sites are located in places which are well-used on a day to day basis.
These sites have bins for paper, card, cans, plastic bottles, glass and in some cases textiles, books and foil.
Garden Waste Service
The Council runs a Garden Waste Service which involves house to house collections throughout the borough.
