Condition of land
This page provides information about how to access information on the condition of land.
The Council's Environmental Protection team regularly receives requests for information about the condition of land.
The team is currently gathering a wide range of information about the condition of land as part of the Council's ongoing Contaminated Land Inspection Strategy.
Some of this information can be released and this section describes how to request this information.
Any request in connection with the condition of land must be formulated so that it is clear as to what is being requested. If it is not then there may be a delay in providing the information or it may be refused.
Requests must be
- made in writing
- sent to 'Environmental Protection Team, Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, Town Hall, Castlefield Road, Reigate RH2 0SH'
- headed "Environmental Information Regulations 2004"
- include a plan, of an appropriate scale, with the boundary of the land that is subject to the request clearly marked, preferably in red
- have questions that are unambiguous.
Formulating questions
To minimise delay, when formulating requests you are advised to have regard to why requests may be refused and what constitutes information about the environment.
Charges
Charges are levied on an hourly basis for the cost of searching, retrieving, reviewing, processing and preparing the information and supervising its supply and the cost of copying, postage, and the use of any special facilities including royalty charges for copyright material, for example on maps.
Prior to proceeding with the request a quote will be provided to the applicant and no work will commence until confirmation has been received that the fees will be paid.
Charges for providing information provided by request made in accordance with the Environmental Information Regulations 1992 are not subject to VAT.
Timescale
We will endeavour to supply the information within 20 working days of receiving a properly formulated request and confirmation of payment of any charges.
This timescale is dependent upon the clarity of the request and the agreement to payment of any fees. We may, with the agreement of the applicant extend the timescale to supply the information.
