People and Places Programme
This section introduces the Council's People and Places Programme. This programme is two-fold; it teaches individuals to care for their environment, and also helps us to develop young people through confidence building and skills development.
It's our job to make sure that everyone in our community looks after our local environment, so that tomorrow's generations inherit a cleaner, healthier world.
The Council’s People and Places Programme builds awareness of ways in which we can improve and protect our environment, ensuring that our community enjoys a rich, healthy and diverse environment, with cleaner air, land and water and flourishing wildlife.

Working with schools
Schools are a vital part of our efforts to bring about the necessary changes in long term attitude to the environment.
We have 48 schools in the borough which range from infant to senior, including private and state, and we have good active and working relationships with all of them.
Ensuring that we reach and involve children of all ages and all backgrounds, we provide a number of opportunities that enable young people to channel their energies into constructive and positive activity.

The aim not only to offer much needed entertainment, but to teach individuals how resources can be used more wisely and environmental problems such as litter, graffiti and anti-social behaviour can be alleviated.
Great strides
Over the years we have made great strides in promoting environmental awareness to younger members of our community.

By educating the school children of today we hope that future generations will be more aware of how their actions can make a difference to our quality of life.
A clean and safe environment
We want people to have peace of mind, knowing that they live in a clean and safe environment, rich in wildlife and natural diversity - one they can enjoy to the full, but feel motivated to care for.
Sponsorship opportunities
The People and Places Programmes are designed to complement the statutory duties of the Council.
Being that the programme is run in addition to requirement each of the initiatives must be self-financing, hence they can not be run or maintained without the help and support of our local businesses.
