New play ground and skate park for Preston Opening of the new stakepark on the Merland Rise Recreation Ground

A new skate park and a revamped children's play ground has been delivered in Preston.

The Merland Rise Skate Park was officially opened on 19 February 2011, just in time for the half term holiday.  The Mayor of Reigate & Banstead Cllr. David Pay praised the enthusiasm of the young people who had been involved in designing the skate park.  The ribbon was cut and the skate park formally opened by young people who had contributed to the design.

Members of the Phoenix Youth Club used the day to begin their fundraising campaign for further facilities - by selling refreshments to those attending the launch event.

The playground delivered in Preston as per the design (shown), was installed in March 2011 on the site of the existing play ground at Merland Rise Recreation Ground.

This playground was the clear winner, of the three short-listed designs, in a vote taken by all the children at Epsom Downs Primary School.  The work was funded by the Government's Playbuilder scheme and New Growth Points funding secured by Reigate & Banstead Borough Council.

Says Cllr De Save, Portfolio Holder for Leisure "This is great news for Preston. Securing external funding has meant we can deliver much improved facilities for children and young people in the area. I hope local children get a lot of enjoyment from using the playground and the skate park they helped to create."
