Population of Reigate and Banstead

This page contains information about the population of Reigate and Banstead.

According to Office of National Statistics mid-year estimates, the population of Reigate & Banstead in mid-2010 was 138,600. Two thirds of this population live within the four main town areas of Reigate, Banstead, Redhill and Horley, whilst the remainder live within other smaller villages or outlying areas.

The borough has seen a high rate of growth of 9.4% between 2001 and 2010, compared to 5.3% across the UK and 6.3% throughout Surrey.

The borough's population has risen by 11,900 people since 2001 and Reigate & Banstead has the largest population of all of the Surrey districts. Latest projections estimate that the population within the borough will exceed 170,000 by 2033.

Quick statistics

The population is evenly split by gender. Females account for 50.7% of borough population, males 49.3%.

Up to the age of 20, there are more males than females; over the age of 55, there are more females than males, with nearly twice as many females over the age of 80 as males.

There are more under-20's than over-60's in the borough but, as with many of the boroughs in Surrey, there is a particularly a low proportion of 20 to 24 year olds.

Although the age structure in the borough is broadly similar to the national picture, we have more children under 15 and fewer 15 to 29 year olds.
