Postal and proxy votes

This page provides information on how to apply and submit postal and proxy votes for elections.

If you are unable to go to your polling station on election day, you can apply to vote by post or proxy (a proxy is someone who votes on your behalf). All registered electors can vote by post on request.

Applying for postal or proxy votes

The deadline for applying to vote by post for the elections on 3 May 2012 is 5pm on Wednesday 18 April 2012.

The deadline for applying to vote by proxy for the elections on 3 May 2012 is 5pm on Wednesday 25 April 2012.

You can download either a

or

  • proxy voting application form.

When printing

When printing the form please make sure that the Page Scaling is set to "None" in the Print Menu.

Return to

Completed forms must be returned to the Electoral Registration Officer, Town Hall, Castlefield Road, Reigate, Surrey, RH2 0SH.

Postal vote poll card

All electors who have a postal vote will receive a poll card showing the address to which the postal ballot papers will be sent. It will also show the likely despatch date for the postal ballot papers.

When you will receive your postal vote

Postal ballot papers are usually despatched first class post seven to ten days before an Election. They can be sent anywhere, either inside or outside the United Kingdom (if for example you are going on holiday).

Please remember, that if the address you want the postal ballot paper sent to is outside the United Kingdom, it will take time to reach you and for you to return it in order for your vote to be counted.

For your vote to be counted it has to be received before 10pm on the day of the Poll - Thursday 3 May 2012. Postal ballot papers can be handed into polling stations on the day of the poll or to the Town Hall, Reigate.

Proxy voting

Electors who are unable to get to their Polling Station may, instead of voting by post, appoint someone to vote on their behalf by completing and returning the necessary form. The person appointed as proxy will then receive a letter giving details of the polling Station to vote at and other information.

Cancellation of postal or proxy vote

If you want to cancel an existing postal or proxy voting arrangement for future elections and revert to voting yourself at your allocated polling station, you can download a cancellation form .
