New Executive arrangements

At a Special Council meeting on 30 September 2010 proposals for new Executive arrangements , confirming the Leader and Cabinet model as the council's preferred decision-making structure were adopted.
These proposals came into effect following the local borough elections in May 2011.
Requirement for change
The government passed legislation requiring the council to change the Executive decision-making process.
The council has the choice of one of two models:
- Leader and Cabinet
- Directly-elected Mayor and Cabinet.
Some explanation and background information on these two models is included in this fact sheet .
Public consultation was undertaken between December 2009 and February 2010, which informed the council’s decision in June 2010 to select the Leader and Cabinet model as its preferred model.
