Our organisation: equality information
This page contains information about the equality profile of our staff.
Fairness in employment
Through its Fairness at Work policy the Council wants to achieve:
A harmonious working environment based on fair working practices, dignity and respect.
A culture where it is known that discrimination, harassment, victimisation and bullying are unacceptable.
A position where everyone has a responsibility to challenge discrimination, harassment, victimisation and bullying within the Council.
An environment where equality complaints are taken seriously and dealt with quickly and efficiently without victimising the individual who made the complaint.
Workforce profile
You can download data about our workforce including breakdown of our staff body by age, disability, sex and race. We acknowledge that we do not have data across all of the protected characteristics; we will be working to collect this over the coming year. Improved data will help us to better understand the needs of our workforce.
Equal pay
The Council is committed to the principle of equal opportunities in employment and this includes a commitment to equal pay. Women and men employed by the Council are entitled to equal pay if they are undertaking work which is substantially similar or is of equal value to the organisation, unless there are clear reasons unconnected with their gender which explain and justify any differential in pay.
Our Equal Pay Policy seeks to ensure that we have a fair and just pay system. An independent Equal Pay Audit undertaken in 2009 (downloadable below) found no overt inequalities of treatment between the sexes in our pay system and this will be reviewed periodically.
