Health campaigns

This page is about health campaigns that support with along with partner agencies such as local health bodies.

Carers' survey

Surrey’s carers are being asked about their health and their health needs - Carers Health Survey 2011. The survey closes on 10 April 2011.

Wasted medicines

NHS Surrey is asking everyone in the county not to order more medicines than they need and talk to their GP or pharmacist if they realise they have a lot of unused medicines at home.

It is part of a War on Waste Medicines campaign which aims to reduce the estimated £8m worth of unused medicines in Surrey each year.

This campaign aims to reduce the amount of medicines that are prescribed and never used each year. Up to £8 million could be saved in Surrey alone, money that could be spent on:

  • 1600 more hip replacements
  • 11200 more cataract operations
  • 240 more community nurses.
For more information visit Unwanted or waste medicines  (NHS Surrey).

Stop smoking

Surrey NHS Stop Smoking Service website offers free support to help you kick the habit. You can visit a weekly clinic or get support over the telephone.

Message in a bottle

You are encouraged to keep your medical information in a bottle in the fridge (so people know where to find it) by this message in a bottle campaign.

We have a supply of the bottles in all our Help Shops and at the Town Hall, along with the relevant information leaflets.

Give blood in Reigate

Regular sessions are held at the Reigate Baptist Church Centre and other venues in the area. Visit Give blood website and search for sessions nearby.

They have recently seen a drop in donations and are keen to see new people.

Surrey's big drink debate

NHS Surrey are running an online survey about knowledge of safe alcohol limits:

This follows on from Surrey's big drink debate which aimed to find out if excessive drinking is a problem in Surrey and what you think about ways of reducing harmful drinking. The survey closed in September 2008 but the website still contains advice and the results will be posted on there.
