The Borough Council is committed to consulting with our residents on a variety of issues.

This section provides information about the Council's Benefits Survey - Stage 1 and 2.

Consultation overview

The Council wanted to find out how satisfied benefit users within the borough are with the service we provide at Reigate and Banstead.

We were required to carry out this survey by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM).

We consulted to allow us to benchmark our performance for benefits with that of the other councils and improve our performance.

Who was consulted?

Residents in the Borough of Reigate and Banstead who receive benefits from the Council.

What were the key findings?

Users felt that the service overall had improved with 78.5% satisfied in 2003/4 compared with 74.33 in 2000/1.

An action plan will be drawn up from the survey actions may include:

  • Assessing customers' preferred opening hours
  • An exit poll of Merstham customers to identify what would improve overall satisfaction
  • A 'Plain English' claim form and accompanying documents
